March 20, 2020

Dear Jr. High Families,

I hope you are all doing well at home and I want to let you know that we have been are working hard to get materials ready for you. We realize this is a difficult situation for everyone. We will support you the best we can during this unexpected change in our school year.

During this past week I prepared lessons and materials for remote learning of Language Arts and Social Studies curriculum. These materials will be used for instruction during the two weeks that our school will be closed from March 23, 2020 to April 3, 2020. I have implemented Google Classroom to communicate some assignments. I have sent out an invitation to each student via school email to join my ELA and SS classes. The bags that are going home contain materials and information needed to complete required assignments. Students need to have their Chromebook (and the power cord) or another device to access Google Classroom to complete their assignments and turn them in on the due date. All textbooks for ELA and Social Studies(Rev it up, novel, Social Studies textbook)are being sent home.*It is important to note that if a student/family does not have internet access I have prepared materials for those students that can be completed without any internet access and they include special instructions.

For Language Arts you have the following materials:

·         Rev it up Vocabulary textbook-if it was left at school

·         ELA textbook

·         A novel –Grade 6: Shiloh, Grade 7: Bud, not Buddy, Grade 8: Holes

·         A Ziploc bag with the following:

-Rev it up daily lesson plans,

-Rev it up word list-Lesson 12,

-Reading assignment guides for reading each novel,

-A packet of worksheets that go with the novel- to be completed over the next 2 weeks. Some portions of the packet will not be required, so look for details of daily assignments on Google Classroom.

-4 Scope magazines-just in case, but nothing is assigned in them yet. *Don’t lose these!

For Social Studies you have the following materials:

·         Social Studies Textbook

·         Social Studies folder- Grades 6 -8, in each folder is a project expectation list

-Grade 6-Ancient Egypt project

- Grade 7- Europe map project

- Grade 8- Civil War project

·         Europe map materials- Grade 7

-yellow construction paper to back your map

-a glue stick

-colored pencils

I will be in contact with parents and students often throughout this time. The best way to contact me is through email at dstebbins@scs.sau7.org from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Unless there are more changes or restrictions, I am planning to be at school from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. every day.
