What is STEM

TEM
stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.  

STEM Bins are a hands on activity for early finishers.  They are a creative and developmentally appropriate form of engineering for elementary students.  STEM Bins are bins with materials in them that students use to create different structures.  Various task cards of different structures are available for students to choose from to create.  

What are students learning?

  • Solving a problem with specified constraints
  • Building creative design skills 
  • Applying structures to real world designs
  • Constructing a variety of two dimensional shapes, three dimensional shapes, lines, and angles using basic geometry
  • Examining multiple perspectives in visual arts
  • Building fine motor skills
  • Thinking inventively and imaginatively
